America's Favorite Fruit has a New Favorite Variety

A recent study has found that significant change is going on in how Americans looks at the apples the buy. This year Gala apples are predicted to surpass Red Delicious Apples in production and sale. This being the first challenge to Red Delicious' supremacy since the 1950s. This surpassing comes along with the nationwide trend away from choosing apples based on uniform coloration and more upon their taste and texture. This change in markets has hurt many farmers as crop turn around for breeds of apples is between 6 and 7 years. In addition, many Red Delicious growers were having to outsource their product to countries like China in order to keep their revenue stable. Now with the tariff war between the US and China there has been a 15% tariff on US Apples in China. This has caused many growers to lose revenue and in some cases go out of business. On a lighter note Honey Crisp apples are growing in popularity, expected to gain 23% in popularity this year and possibly pass Gala in the standings in the next couple years. Also, Max has recently tried a Honey Crisp and confirmed its superiority to all varieties.
